Antiqued Brass Poem Compass with Leather Case

This was great gift to a young man who just joined boot camp

I purchased this product awhile ago but unfortunately it wasn't made to last. The leather pouch seemed well crafted until the strap broke off my belt whist I was running and the face of the compass itself is made of some kind of paper. Rain water ended up seeping into the compass even though it was protected by a layer of glass and the leather pouch got soaked in the process. Before I knew it the compass itself was ruined and the leather pouch started to tear apart. I will say though that the outside is completely made of brass and the poem within is legible and nice to have around so I now use the remains of the compass to store silver dollars. I guess if you want something of quality, you're going to have to pay for it.

This was a graduation gift for my son. (I had purchased him a few other items so this was a last minute add-on.) The company shipped it next day for me so I could have it in time. The package was so well packaged that even though there was a boot print on the outside packaging (I am assuming was left by the delivery driver) the inside packaging was secure! The little (let's call it pleather) case it comes in is nice enough with a little buckle to fasten it shut. I was most pleased that the material of the case was soft enough to allow me to personalize the gift by using my metal letter stamps to stamp his name into the case. The compass itself looks worn and old, this is not a complaint as it was what I was hoping for! My son has an old soul and likes antiques so this was perfect! The Robert Frost poem inside was so nice, the print is very small but in fairness, there is not a lot of room in the lid so I was impressed they were able to fit the whole poem! (Besides, my son was able to read it just fine, so that is all that matters!) Overall, I was very pleased with my purchase. I have seen this item as well as similar items selling for much much more on Amazon and other sites! So this was an amazing price for it! (It pays to shop around!) ;)

I think I expected it to be slightly bigger but it's not a big deal at all. It honestly feels a bit fragile but that's OK because it's meant to be a decorative knickknack opposed to something I intend to actually use.Loved the Robert Frost poem etched on the inside lid, didn't expect that part.
