Great Flash. Bright and stays cool to the touch
Great Flash. Bright and stays cool to the touch. The LED modeling lights are bright. LEDs are dimmable and can be set at a different power level from the flash which is a plus. Flicker free as well. Tried the LED lights for video at 240 frames per second slow-motion and no flicker was shown. Great flash for the price.

Great Light for the Price
I've been looking to start upgrading my "cheap" studio lights. I am not disappointed, in my small studio there is almost 0 refresh time and I purchased it with a 36x42 softbox,9ft air cushioned stand and I am very happy... I wish the little photo copied sheet of a manual was a bit better.

Convenient, Powerful flash for home studio, weak modeling light
I'm happy with these for my home studio, I purchased 4 of them.I use this at about 1/2 power for a portrait fill light (with umbrella) from 15 feet away at ISO 200, f11; and use 1/4 power for hair light, background light, and main modeling light in umbrella from 6 feet away in my home studio.Comes with heavy duty long power cord, and long flash sync cables. Comes with a bayonet mount cover for the flash (which is longer than I wish, takes up extra storage space, it is recycled from the older long incandescent modeling light). The included reflector is sufficient for general purpose use. (it is fairly thin metal, and can be bent/dented with moderate pressure; I trimmed one of my 4 reflectors with tin snips to be shorter, to allow wider pattern to fill 60" umbrella; I don't use any reflector inside my soft box).Adorama also sells separately a Snoot for hair light, and Barn doors with color filters, and honey comb grid set, and speed rings for their "Flashpoint II" mount; (I also purchased these, and am satisfied with them). Beauty dishes and softboxes are also available. There is also a connector for the optional DC battery pack for outdoor use.The Blue case is sturdy and easy to carry. (Adorama says this is a rugged rubberized layer covering a metal frame). The cooling fan is always on, it's Not noisy enough to be bothersome. There are controls for optical sync, modeling light, manual trigger, and audio beep confirmation when charged. At half power, I can get 2-3 flashes per second, (which is So much nicer than the 10 second recharge on my hot shoe flashes; makes the photo session with the model flow much better when I don't have to ask the model to hold the position and smile for 10 seconds to snap the next picture; I get more good expressions with this fast recycle time). The digital display is large and bright enough to be seen across the room, the dial allows quick adjustment. I checked the displayed power on my light meter, Full power reads "6" on the display, minimum power of 1/32 is "1" on the display (a nice 5 stop range) The most significant digit shows a 1 stop increment (a bit more than 1, when measured on my light meter), the least significant digit after the decimal point shows 1/10th stop increments. When you dial down the power, the flash dumps the un-needed energy. The modeling light can either follow the flash output level, or be dimmed independently. The LED lights are both a strong and weak point of this system. They are cooler and don't use much power or generate much heat, but they are also weaker (equivalent to a 40 Watt incandescent bulb, you need a totally dark room to see their effect). The Flash tube is replaceable, for about $60. (If you buy the DG400 200W/S mono-light for $50 less, it also has a cheaper replacement flash-tube at $20, both lights are equivalent except for the flash tube. I have both models, and like the DG400 for background lights).All-in All, A very nice mono-light, for a relatively cheap price of $200. If the LED modeling light was brighter, it would be 5 stars.

Good Value
I bought this light as an inexpensive strobe and I have been very pleased with the purchase. I like the handle on the outside and seems to refresh decently quick. I like the LED modeling light too. The only real complaint that I have about the strobe is that I cannot turn up or down the modeling light separate from the main light, the modeling light turns up and down based on the main light. Other than that, great purchase.
