Too high level
A lot of the earlier sections of this book boil down to common sense. Check out the place you want to move to, look at traffic, think about employment, know your finances, etc. Be sure to learn about the area you're moving to, make sure you're not near any hazards. These sections, while helpful, aren't really anything unique to this book's concerns. The author presents himself as quite experienced, both in disaster response and in the field of construction. For this reason, I was disappointed that the section on selecting, designing, or building a home was so short. He mentions that some types of roofing are better than others, and that concrete walls are more fire resistant. He also mentions that log cabins are quite durable, but doesn't spend any more time talking about them. The chapter also weighs the effectiveness of various building materials at stopping bullets. Nice to know, but being shot at is a bit lower on my checklist than having a home that can resist more common disasters.Overall, the book feels half finished. The outline and premise are both solid, there are nuggets of good expertise from the author that I would never have thought of on my own, but most of the chapters lack details that would make the book a unique and valuable resource. I'd love to hear more anecdotes from the author's experience with helping people relocate. I'd also like to see the chapter on home buying and construction doubled or tripled in size and detail. Overall, I wish the author shared more of his unique experience and insight. After reading the book, I came away disappointed, but hopeful that a second or third edition might be truly excellent.

I wish I'd had this book when I was looking for property
When we first looked at buying a prepper place we had a list of things we thought were important. But we aren't experienced in buying property nor at preparedness, Quite a few books discuss the planning stages of buying land, but none of them are as detailed nor as prepper oriented as this one. Lots of tips and checklists for looking at land with homes or without. Tells you how to assess not only a particular property, but also the area and community surrounding it. Well worth the money.
