Not my first foray into foam.....
I know many of these reviews touch on many topics, not all of which I believe are relative to the actual product. So lets get these out of the way. Yes the mattress comes in a box. It's folded up, vacuum packed and wrapped in a band. The box a bit larger than a mini fridge. It weighs around 90 pounds. The foam does have a smell. Depending on how sensitive you are to it will depend on how you rate the product. It is just the smell of new foam. It will dissipate, how fast depends on room temp, ventilation and other environmental factors. So now that I have the simple, mostly unimportant things covered, I will give you some background. My ex-wife insisted on spending 2500$ on a Tempur-pedic mattress when we were together 3 years ago or so. I was NOT happy about the cost, especially when there were many lower priced products on the market similar to this mattress. So I slept on a Tempur brand for a year or so. It was built differently than this mattress. The top layer(s) were much softer and you really sunk in before you hit the "support" layer of foam. I found myself in a snuggled dip, making rolling over at night difficult and usually found that I was woken up by the struggle. The mattress was hot too. Let me tell you I was a sweat factory every night. It was nice in the winter time, however. But all in all I was comfortable and had little to no back or neck pain. This was the least I could expect, considering the fact that I spend a good sum of money on a premium mattress. One of the few things I will mention (probably just my own body issues) is that if I didn't pee before bed, you can bet your bottom dollar that I would wake up in the morning with a sore back and having to run to the bathroom. I just got used to going beforehand and never had any issues. Also something people don't touch on AT ALL is the subject of intimacy. We all pretty much participate in this activity on this particular household item exclusively, and no one really talks about the differences between springs vs. foam. On the Tempur mattress the fact that you sunk in quite a bit with no give made bedroom activities a constant game changer. If anyone had issues with joints, or needing to be at a certain level or position during this activity would have to pretty much find another surface to have these activities on.And with that background being covered I can move on. My new wife and I moved out to Maine from the Pacific Northwest, selling all our belongings and started fresh. We hit town and bought some furniture, and a mattress at the same time from the same dealer. It was a discount mattress and believe me after 2 months we knew we got what we paid for. Sagging center and broken springs. We spoke of our options and discussed foam. I had experience with it, however refused to pay 2,000$ for a mattress. We shopped around locally, even hitting the sleep number store in our local mall. Their memory foam was a bit firmer than what I had before, but the tilt/massage and air adjustability was very enticing, then I got the 5600$ price and walked out. We are both thrifty and big Amazon shoppers so we turned here. We shopped Sams Club and Costco also and decided on this mattress. Ordered it on Friday Oct 19th and it was at our door before noon the next day. Amazon will always have the best delivery and service. We unpacked the bed at noon and slept on it that night. The smell was already almost gone by our 9 o'clock bedtime. We settled right in on the firmest bed either of us has ever slept on. It was a terribly uncomfortable frist night. Our pillows were not supportive enough either. We woke up Sunday, assessed the situation and went right out to Sams Club and dropped 80$ on a soft 1.5" foam topper, installed it and have the mattress of our dreams. A nice shallow cushy layer that supports with the firmness we desire. We sleep cool, we are isolated from eachothers movements and let me tell you, the firmness and the fact that you don't "sink" into the mattress have opened our eyes to a whole new world in the romance department. Having a bed that does not move all over on bouncy springs really amplifies the energy you put into the pleasure.I will leave it at that. I will also be very critical of this purchase and will update this review as often as something comes to light worth mentioning. But for now, we got an amazing mattress. It may not be perfect out of the box, but with products available anywhere you can tailor this to your own sleep style with little investment. This is a great mattress with an AMAZING price. I love it more than the Tempur brand that was almost 5 times more expensive.Enjoy!!Update (3-4-13) We have been sleeping on this mattress for a tick over 4 months now. Every night my wife and I look forward to our sleep! We have "rotated" the mattress twice now (end to end, not flipping it over, as you can only sleep on the top surface) for no other reason than to just prevent us from possibly sinking the mattress (absolutely no sign of that). One evening I was washing the cover for our 2" mattress topper and we lost power in the middle of it. We decided to sleep on just the mattress and without the topper. Same as the first night we woke up stiff and achey. This mattress alone is still just too firm without the 2" soft layer that the extra topper provides. I would still recommend this mattress to anyone, since you can customize the sleep with a small investment in a topper.Update (3-8-14) It's been well over a year now, and this bed has become our favorite place in the house. About 5 months ago we decided to remove the foam topper and sleep directly on the bed, because I was, for some reason, tossing and turning which shifted the topper, causing me to have part of my body on the topper and then my shoulders would fall and contact the mattress. I can only think that after almost a year of sleeping on the mattress, it "softened" up enough to where we felt the bed was the same firmness without the topper. Picked up some 600 thread count luxury sheets and we could never imagine not sleeping on this bed. Still stand by my rating and recommend it.

It may not be for everyone, but I love it!
I rarely, if ever, have the urge to write a review, but when I was considering this bed I found the reviews very helpful. I thought I should contribute my thoughts to people that were on the fence about buying this memory foam mattress.Prior to ordering this mattress, I did a lot of research online. I also thought it'd be a great idea to go to a local Tempur Pedic store. While I was there, I tried several of the different mattresses. I wanted to really find out if I would like the comfort of the mattress. They felt firm, but very comfortable. I would recommend anyone that has not tried sleeping on a memory foam mattress to go to a local store and lay on them to see if they are your cup of tea or not. I wanted to make an informed decision about my purchase; I made sure to ask the Tempur Pedic employee any questions I had about the mattresses. Some questions asked:1) What is the biggest reason why people return their bed?-She told me that people generally returned the bed because they said it was too hard, firm, and/or not comfortable. She went on to tell me that a lot of people don't give the bed enough time. She stated that people should try to give the bed 8-12 weeks. Some people actually love the bed after the 8-12 week break in period.2) Do you own a memory foam mattress? If so, which one and why?-She did own one. She owned one of the higher end "cloud" models. She told me she selected her mattress based on the feel and comfort.3) Did you find that your sleep improved? Did the quantity and quality of sleep change significantly?-She told me that her sleep did improve. She told me she still sleeps about the same amount of time but that the quality of sleep is much better.4) Are there "heat" issues with the memory foam mattresses?-She states that the technology used allows very good heat dissipation. She then tells me that a lot of people that "sleep hot" will likely feel the same on a memory foam.5) How much do these mattresses run?-She tells me that the mattresses run several thousand dollars. She states there is financing and that it is an "investment in your health".6) Anything else you want to share with me regarding a new purchase?-She tells me that it would be a good idea to get a new pillow with the mattress. She states that some people find the bed uncomfortable, but once they purchase a new pillow to compliment the mattress, that it can improve the overall comfort.I knew that I wanted a memory foam mattress, but I also knew I didn't want to have to spend $3,000 or more. That brought me to Amazon. I read hundreds of reviews on this particular mattress and on others as well. I decided to go with this mattress mainly due to the amount of feedback and positive reviews. I figured the price was worth the risk, took the plunge (I ordered a queen size mattress). The mattress arrived 2 days after I placed my order on Amazon. The package was heavy (close to 100 lbs), but I was able to move the box and unpack the mattress by myself (I'm not a gym rat/health nut, but I usually exercise 2-3 times per week). I live in a one story home. The mattress was relatively easy to maneuver into the bedroom. I was smart about how I lifted the box and made sure to use proper body mechanics.I carefully followed the directions to unpack the bed being particularly careful not to cut the mattress. After cutting the sleeve/plastic wrapping, the mattress expanded fairly rapidly. I have my mattress on a platform designed specifically for memory foam beds.My sense of smell is fairly sensitive. I notice the chemical smell right away, but after a few hours it seems to be dissipating and it is much less noticeable. After a few days it is completely gone.I was happy to see that I wouldn't have to wait 48 hours before being able to sleep on the bed. The brochure that came with the bed states that it is actually okay to sleep on the mattress the first night. It said that body heat could actually help the mattress expand into its proper form.It is difficult to rate/grade the firmness because there isn't a standard scale that everyone is familiar with. Not only that, but deciding what is "firm" is all subjective and will vary from person to person. For me the mattress is "firm", but not in a bad way. The foam conforms to your body and there is a sensation of pressure relief. I am getting great support and the bed feels very comfortable. Regarding heat, I have no issues whatsoever. Of course there is also the no motion transfer feature.I can honestly say this is the best sleep I've gotten in a long time. I had minor back and body aches before, after sleeping on this mattress a few days I no longer have those aches. I also ended up buying a memory foam pillow. I feel that it has added comfort and quality to my sleep.Bottom line is the mattress does everything the major name brand does, but is more affordable. I don't regret this purchase at all. Of course it may not be for everyone... but with so many 4 and 5 star reviews, there's a high probability that you might find that this memory foam mattress works for you.**Update (over 2 weeks later): I still love my bed. It is very comfortable! I would make this purchase again. I have been getting improved quality of sleep. I toss and turn way less, get up less during the night, and wake up without aches or back pain.**Update (over 2 months later): The bed still feels comfortable. Love it!

Wonderful mattress
The delivery was excellent. It arrived before the expected date. It was in excellent condition, there was no damage to the box or mattress. When we laid the mattress out, it didn't take long to form at all, at least 4 hours. Our back problems are no longer problems. We are a heavy set couple. I was afraid of it sinking in, which it hasn't! We are very happy with this purchase and I do recommend this for anyone with back problems.

We ordered this to replace our terrible traditional (and very expensive) spring mattress that was only 3 years old and already worn out! It came in 48hrs and was ready to sleep on within a few hours of opening it. There was no overpowering smell like some other foam products, which was awesome since once you open it, you are committed! We've had it 3 weeks and have loved every night's sleep! It's a little more firm than I like but that was quickly remedied by adding our 1 inch foam topper to it that we had on our previous mattress. My husband loved it before and is still fine with the topper on it.Over all, great bed for a great price!

very comfortable matress.
Very comfortable mattress. However, some people will find that it's too firm for them. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes to sleep on a firm mattress. The memory foam will perfectly adjust to the pressure points of your body. That being said, be warned that the matress is very heavy compared to non memory foam mattresses.

Great product
This now the third memory foam mattress I have bought (a Tempurpedic double, a Novaform twin, and now this Sleep Innovations twin.) I have never had a problem with any foam odour or them unfolding into their expanded shape upon unpacking. All expanded right away and retained proper shape.) In this case, I was hoping to buy the same Novaform twin mattress again, to have the option of putting them together to make a King. Unfortunately, I was unable to find the exact same Novaform, but I found out that Sleep Innovations makes Novaform, so when I saw this twin on Amazon and read the description and price point, I guessed that this was as close as possible to the other mattress. In any case, it is very comfortable, with enough softness for a firm mattress that you get the underlying support and the surface comfort. It matches the Novaform very well and works as a King nicely, as we have slept on it this way to test it out. No hesitations in recommending this product.

A mattress worth loving
This is a great mattress. You can put a glass of wine on it and let your kids or your mother in law jump around on it. There is very little transfer of movement with this type of foam. Sleeping on it is hard to define - I don't seem to be able to stay awake enough to make a thorough analysis, plus when I wake up, my back does not hurt at all! No complaints. It comes well vacuum-packaged, rolled and sucked onto a cardboard mailing tube. Once you release the tape, it reverts to it's intended shape. No odor, just comfort! Get one!
