Seems to work fine, though I wouldn't use it for precision work
Purchased this to quickly locate the center on the end of round stock, for center drilling for lathe work. Seems to work fine, though I wouldn't use it for precision work, i.e. only when there is at least several thousandths of stock to be removed. As others have said, it's heavily made: 346g or 12-1/8 oz. The V portion is 10.47mm / 0.412" thick. Straightedge is 2.24mm / 0.088" thick. Total thickness is 12.78mm / 0.503". Width across the outer flats of the V is 80.71mm / 3.178".It looks like you should be able to find the center of a circle a little under 4.5" diameter using this tool, keeping the faces of the V (not the tips) in contact with the circle. Some issues I noticed so far: The width of the arms, (measuring each from the inside V to the outside V) is different for each arm, one is 1.247" and the other is 1.255, so the outer V's virtual intersection (the actual point is ground off) can't be in line with that of the inner V. Something to keep- in mind. The outer and inner V faces seem to be parallel with each other, in case that matters. The tips of the V (if the V is upright) are ground off, that the flats are different sizes, one about 0.052" and the other 0.028". This probably means you can't set the tool on those faces and have the straightedge at right angles to the surface you set it on. Or if it is, then something else isn't square. Again, this tool wasn't purchased for precision work, so I'm not worried about it, and for the price it's great.

Perfect.
This was exactly the tool I needed for finding the precise center of the end of a piece of round stock. You hold the rod or dowel against the right-angled piece, and scribe a line along the straight edge on the stock. Rotate the stock, scribe a second line, and -- voila! -- where the lines cross is the exact center of the piece.Very well-made tool: solid stainless steel; the angled part is about 1/2" thick; straight edge is machined to nearly a razor's edge. The whole thing looks and feels solid and substantial. Great deal for the price (about $14, at this writing). This measuring tool takes all the guesswork out. Will work with stock up to about 3"-4" in diameter; I assume they make larger sizes of this tool for larger stock. Wish I'd found one years ago. Highly recommended.

The best centering square I have!
I don't write many reviews on Amazon. I figure there are better sources for info on a product. I know what I'm buying before I buy it and usually don't take a stranger's word. I actually want to comment on this thing. I have Starret, Harbor Freight, and a couple of other supplier centering squares and this thing beats them all for ease of use. It's inexpensive and it works. The only problem I had with it was with the shipper. Some how one of the tips was bent slightly when I received it. Dressed it with a file and started using it.

Very heavy
This thing is far heavier than it needs to be, and because its made from heavy steel, it has extremely sharp edges. It also only works with a very sharp pencil. In my opinion it could made of aluminum, thusly making it easier to carry around in your tool belt, and give just a little more room for a blunt #2 pencil. But hey, it works just as described so its hard to be too picky!

Should have bought one years ago.
I suppose this may be primarily a review of centering squares in general, but what a useful tool! I'd been hacking my way through finding the center in rods for years and this makes the process both fast and accurate. This particular square is a nice solid piece with no flex making it easy to hold in place with one hand while inscribing with the other.I find this tool incredibly handy to mark up wood and metal dowels for my drill press or to align in my lathe. Highly recommended.

Great tool to have
Convenient tool. Made in India and precise enough that one could use an optical center punch at the cross hair scribe lines. I also find it useful for marking a 45 degree line from the outside corner or end of squared things. Guess it could also serve as a ninja star. Some of the edges/corners were quite sharp, others not, and a quick pass with a stone made it comfortable to hold.

Square did it's job brilliantly. solid construction to last a lifetime
Square did it's job brilliantly. solid construction to last a lifetime.Only issue: the square's scribe arm was damaged in transit and the very tip of it was bent. Not a huge problem.Note: Handle with care. The edges are sharp and it is made from tool steel. It can cut you.....it can cut you up so bad, you-you gonna wish it didn't cut you so bad.

Good little tool
This is a good little tool for finding the center of round stock. You can't see it in the picture, but the edge that goes along the center is sharpened, which is good. You use a scribing tool against that edge to scratch a line across round stock. Two intersecting lines give you the center. If you get one of these, you're expected to know that, but not everyone does.
