Friedrich is a good brand, but their window kit is terrible
The main reason I bought a Friedrich portable ac is because of the 2 hose design. The second reason I got Friedrich is because of their 1 year warranty, and that they have authorized dealers in my area to provide warranty service repairs. With another popular 2 hose brand, you have to ship the ac to CA on your dime (and their warranty is only 3 months). The last, but not least reason, is that I have an old Friedrich window unit that's lasted over 25 years, so I trust their brand. So far, this ac has worked better than I thought it would. With the help of a fan to direct the cool air, it cooled off my 900 plus sq. ft apartment enough to keep me comfortable. But I must add, my tolerance for warm weather is higher than many people I know. Of course, the coldest room was the living room where the ac is installed. The window kit is terrible, at least for my windows. They give you 3 PVC panels. Because the exhaust hose is larger than the intake hose, the panel doesn't fit that great in my window. The 2 additional panels don't attach well with the main hoses panel. There are gaps everywhere that have to be stuffed with foam strips and rags. Also, the small panel is too small, and the large panel is too big for my window. Customer Service stated the PVC panel can be scored and snapped to fit my window. I haven't tried that yet. They are really thick and I can't see how I could snap them. The hoses snap easily into the window kit, but not so easily to the unit itself. I attached the hoses to the window kit first, then placed the window kit in the window. Where the hoses snap into the window kit panel, there are gaps all around the hoses. Like I said, the window kit is terrible. They really need to work on improving it.

Done with Friedrich
I have had this POS for a year now, should have known better. Had a Fredrich window unit 12,000 btu back in 1989 it cost $800 back then! It was very quiet but cooled poorly with a pathetically weak fan. It only lasted 7 years. I replaced it with a Frigidaire Gallery which blew it away for a lot less money. Now this POS has stopped cooling my basement office. Unit will not cool below 73 to 74 degrees, tried shutting down reset unit cleaned filter. Never again way over priced for such a underperformer. Now I have called certified repair place they tell me $89 just to look at it and any thing other than the sealed system and compressor is not covered after the first year. I will have to spend half what I paid for this POS to get it working plus repair place said it would be weeks before they can look at it. I think this POS will make a great target at my home range. Nice one ounce slugs.

Description should have included important info
It’s an attractive unit, fairly quiet and cools well. Rather expensive so hope it lasts a long time. As another reviewer noted, the window panels were inadequate. I really saw no mention in the description, or with the instructions that came with it that the panels might need cut to fit....the hard, plastic panels. It would have been VERY helpful if the description had stated the very few options one had to have these window panels fit. Luckily, my husband has saws that can cut through such stuff, and foam tape to insert in the gaps in these panels. We put this in an apartment for an elderly woman and it was bit annoying to return home at the end of a long hot day to cut the panel to fit.
