#1 Luggage Scale w/Tape Measure, 110 lbs w/FREE AAA batteries, Best For Travel

I think this is a great little luggage scale to keep flyers within the new airline restrictions for pack weights and dimensions. The mini tape measure is an awesome little plus and I appreciated that it came with 2 AAA batteries in the box. My own complaint and reason I could not give it a full 5 star rating is because of the level feature which must be employed properly to make sure you get an accurate weight....this is not an easy thing to do for two reasons:1. the level window as a very pale yellow background making it hard to visualize when the level bubble is in the correct area of the tiny viewing window. The level apparatus is probably made using oil and water for the bubble, or oil and an air bubble which must be floated into a tinier little circle inside the circular viewing window to indicate the bag is held level, in the appropriate plane for an accurate weight measurement. This is no easy task to do when you have no weight on the strap....add a bag that ways up to 50lbs. (20kg) and it's almost impossible. I think with practice and a bag that you are not trying to bring right up to the maximum baggage weight allowance, it would be a little easier.2. The directions are horrible. I appreciate that there is not 25 pages of multi-language instructions which are difficult to understand but the instructions that are included, are all picture only. You might think this would make things easier...but without a description on how to precisely calibrate the scale or even tips on holding the handle into a level position...the pictures aren't as helpful as you might desire for accurate and consistent luggage weighing.My son is trying to load to huge duffle bags almost up to the 50 lb. weight limit and we will try using another mailing scale we have as well as double check our results with the bathroom scale just to be safe. With penalties as high as $75 for overweight luggage and $75 for over total dimension luggage on check-in bags...you don't want room for error. However, stating these obvious design flaws there are several really great things about the little unit. It's a good size to fit comfortably into an adult hand and ergonomic which makes it easier to hold with a 50 lb. bag attached. The strap mechanism is very secure and easy to use and the the same applies the the quick return mini tape measure (total measurement is approximately 38"). The unit itself is quite lightweight and compact which makes it easy to store in your luggage for future trips home or away. I honestly would have given it a 5 star rating without hesitation if they had simply made the level window bigger or colored the solution/bubble combination with high contrast, easy to read materials. Even with the drawbacks of the level apparatus and the poor instructions, it's a great little scale and a terrific purchase for the price. The penalties instituted by the airlines today are completely outrageous, easily adding up to $150 for a single bag. This nifty scale device protects against both possible penalty categories...size, and weight. The scale will give a red error warning light when your bag is over the 50lb. weight limit but the scale can weigh to 110 lbs. accurately. I would recommend this product and/or repurchase a second one.

I'm leaving for Iceland later this month, but the founder of Swisste sent an email asking for me to review this, so I'll review it conditionally, and update my review when I get my luggage packed and weigh it, or after my trip (the more likely scenario). First, I was amazed at the large, bright, and easy to read LED display. Very impressed. The scale weighs items fractionally, to the tenth of a pound (if not mistaken), so there are many more uses for this scale after my return. The scale is beautifully manufactured with an attractive stainless steel front, and very sturdy in construction. The scale is so intuitive to use and reset that I didn't need the instructions. The internal measuring tape is smooth and well placed. Finally, what many failed to mention in their reviews is there is a leveler, or a tiny transparent window containing a bubble. By centering the bubble, the scale is perfectly level. I will discover is accuracy later this month. It's so well designed I'm guessing it's completely accurate, but if not, I will append my review. If so, I'll leave it as is (since I'll be on vacation, and possibly unable to access the Internet). I'll try to remember to update this review on my return, so there is definite closure. However, if I don't update it, no news is good news! I'm a stickler for updating reviews when something goes wrong, more often than when something goes right. My bad, of course. ;-)

The scale appears to be good quality with nice aesthetics. I haven't yet tested the scale accuracy but I suspect it will be good. I marked off one point because there is no obvious way to secure the strap so it isn't flopping around in my luggage when I take it with me. I ended up adding a keychain to secure the strap which is hardly an elegant answer but it does do the job. I found the pictograph instructions to be hard to interpret. On balance, I liked it.

Does the trick. Is spot on with respect to accuracy (i tested it by weighing something using the luggage scale, then weighing myself on our accurate bathroom scale with and without holding the same item). The weights were identical. It's small enough to carry with us to check our luggage on the way back home (after too many t-shirt purchases, lol) and the tape measure is a nice and useful touch.

Pros: Run off of AAA batteries, which are much cheaper & easier to find. Measurements are consistent, although off by a few %. I measured some 10 lbs weights and the scale consistently measured 10.2 lbs. Given that airport scales are also imperfect, this is acceptable. The bubble level is really useful for getting consistent measurements, since any portable luggage scale will read differently if it's in different positions. And the handle size is useful for very heavy items.Cons: The battery cover sucks! I used the side of the buckle like the instructions said, but the cover cracked and will probably fall apart soon and I am using tape for now. The button is kind of confusing, I have trouble getting it to turn on/off/tare/lbs-kg/etc without looking at the instructions (which will eventually get lost).Requests: Get a normal battery cover, this style is bad! Print the button operations on the device, so I won't have to worry about losing instructions. Also, please move the strap & bubble level so it's all centered, this will make it far easy to keep level and also lift heavy bags.
