Others here have written in praise of Gould's performances, which are indeed wonderful.I did also want to second the experience of a UK listener below who complained of flaws in his or her Disc 4.My CD4 is likewise a mess, with some horribly obtrusive clicking (tape damage?) in the Art of the Fugue organ tracks.I can live with this. I was buying the set for the Partitas, not for the organ tracks. But that's just me.So: fair warning: you may find the Art of the Fugue tracks unlistenable, due either to an error in the manufacture or (I think more likely) an error in the transfer of the tape to digital medium.I have no complaints whatever with CDs 1-3.

I have these by several interpreters, but I love Glenn Gould as he plays them.

Incomparable...with Glen's dementional tone and lucid tone it doesn't make any difference that it was recorded so long ago.

Glenn Gould playing Bach -- rapturous! Nothing like it in the world. Flawless technique, sensitive interpretations, the genius of Bach brought alive through the gift of Gould.

I returned the CD set in one day, I think it is fake and not really produced by Sony. The figures and words on the cd cover are not clear, seems like printed by dot matrix printer. Two of the CDs cannot be read by my hifi.Anyway, the return policy of amazon is good.

You either like Glenn Gould's playing of Bach or you do not ! I absolutely adore his style and playing however "eccentric" others may feel it to be.His interpretations make wonderful listening and I have been listening for many many years with great pleasure every time the music permeates my sitting room at home.Bach is a particular favourite and all my comments for his Bach CDs would be the same as this one. You may well have to put up with his humming along to thew melodies but I have grown used to this again over many listenings.I would recommend you try some of his Bach and see how you get on with it. His sound to my ears often sounds somewhere between and piano and a harpsichord.which coupled with his unique interpretation lends to the whole experience. For me, sheer delight !

This is a 4 CD Box Set of priceless recordings by the magnificent Glenn Gould. However, I have received and returned two copies in which CD 4 does not play. All other three CDs in each set are fine. The third replacement has now arrived and it also contains a CD4 which does not play. Fortunately most of what I wanted is on the first three discs. I can't be bothered to return it yet again as this is obviously a faulty batch. Bad.

Glenn Gould has something in him which allows him to get right into the spirit of Bach. Others play the notes but he has the essence
