Intense and Emotional
My kids and I have been reading the Hilo series for years at the library. The kids are aged 8, 5, and 3. They have always loved the humor, cartoonish action, relatable characters, and great storylines of this series and have read the other books countless times. I had no idea how the series would wrap up, and it certainly did not disappoint. I will say, however, that the subject matter here is quite grave and heart wrenching, especially for fans of these characters.Spoilers below!! (For parents who want to be prepared for what happens before letting their kids read "All the Pieces Fit")________________________Izzy appears to have betrayed her friends, Hilo, and all the humans of Jannus by helping Razorwark build a robot army and send it to wipe out all of the humans on Jannus. All characters are sad, confused, and angry at sweet Izzy, who keeps insisting it all has to be done. That she can see how all the pieces fit together in the end. Then Izzy sacrifices herself to give Hilo her power. In a drawn out sequence, she essentially dies. Others cry over her lifeless body. My kids were literally crying. Then Hilo confronts Razorwark and appears to die as well, but the robot army doesn't get sent to Jannus, so that planet is saved. Razorwark destroys himself in one final act of self sacrifice to give his power of emotions to the robot army. More characters cry and mourn hilo's death. My kids cried harder. Then Hilo shoots back to earth through a portal and has been transformed into a human boy, not a robot, and is adopted by the Lim family. Izzy is gone but Hilo gets a normal human life filled with love and friendship. In this story there is lots of talk about Razorwark's rage, hatred of humans, determination to make them all pay for his heartache. Dr Bloodmoon talks about heroes having to sacrifice everything. A wonderful sequence shows Gina finally fully coming into her magical powers and extraordinary abilities. DJ's mom and sister are more involved in the action, which is fun to see. Those girls are badass! And of course Polly providing great quotable commentary to elicit some much needed laughs! As a parent, this final book was a struggle because the first few books of the series were more light-hearted and humorous. Getting into these heavy themes and discussions and seeing my kids cope with a beloved character's death was very difficult. Judd Winnick is an extraordinary author and artist and has created a truly remarkable series that I highly recommend. Just be prepared for this final installment to bring up some bigger issues and questions for younger kids, and quite possibly some tears.

9 year old declares it “Epic”
I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet, but my 9 year old son loved it. He read it quickly, then immediately read it a second time, and said that while it isn’t as funny as some of the other books in the series, it’s very dramatic and has a great explosion. He said I should tell everyone it’s awesome, but he didn’t want to give too many specifics and give the whole story away.

Great series for kids and adults
I've read a bunch of Judd Winnick's work (Green Lantern, Barry Ween) and liked pretty much all of it. Hilo has been an amusing and exciting departure from his more serious/adult stuff and I simply can't wait for the next book to come out. I am happy that this book wraps up the initial story line and even happier to see that the books will continue the story, though I have no friggin' idea where this thing can go from here...
