Heartfelt, wholesome recipes!
This is a beautiful, heartfelt recipe book written with love! I love the family photos of Leela cooking and to be able to share these wonderful family memories through the delicious recipes! I have been lucky to have a curry dish made for me and the roti too by Christine recently which was really wholesome!! The flavours were wonderful and I can’t wait to make some dishes myself from the book!! They are a beautiful family and the heart and soul of them can be felt in every page! Rare to get recipe books like this! Thank you!!

Great recipes
This is an authentic Guyanese cook book of a nice selection of recipes in large print and with photos. I’ve tried the chicken curry and it turned out lovely, although slight disagreement on some things by my Guyanese boyfriend, he still gave it a thumbs up. There are a number of errors which make some of the recipes a bit confusing eg, in the curry recipe it lists 1 inched cube of garlic..but on reading the method it’s clear it’s ginger. I’m not sure what the second mention of curry powder is meant to be. In the cucumber and chilli salad ingredients red onion is mentioned, but then not in the instructions. In the Upside down pineapple cake, caster sugar is mentioned twice, but from instructions it’s obviously syrup. These are the errors I’ve noticed so far, but look forward to trying out some more recipes and shouldn’t put you off trying this book too.

A Joyfully Eclectic Family Cookbook
This lovely cookbook has brought me so much joy. It’s an eclectic mix of recipes with a few little ‘life notes’ thrown in for a nice little read. I’ve really enjoyed opening this book at a random page to decide what recipe. Leela’s scones were really good.Awful photo of some really delicious Bombay potatoes. Not something I’d ever thought about cooking but I’m so pleased I did. They were so good, I actually did a little jump for joy (Disclaimer: I have bought this book during the pandemic so possibly I’m also going a little bit insane)I’m looking forward to making Leela’s pineapple upside down cake and one day being brave enough to make the saltfish fritters. Oh and I’ve eaten Leela’s samosas at a party so I am very happy to note that they’ve been included in the book.I know the author(s) person and want to congratulate them for both putting this family cookbook together and for sharing it with us.

Delicious, easy to follow recipes
I love this book. It's full of easy to follow recipes that won't disappoint. As someone who loves spicy food, but has always relied on jars of paste to create my curries, this book has shown me another way. I can create wonderful, budget friendly, meals and snacks, using fresh ingredients, quite simply!Kit Budhan-Mills has written this book in collaboration with her mum, documenting the tastes she grew up with. The book is not just about food, but the importance of family, and passing down recipes to the next generation. I hope you enjoy her book, and her delicious recipes, as much as I have.

Brilliant and easy to follow recipe book full of delicious meals
Brilliant recipe book with loads of delicious things to cook! We can now make proper curry using spices rather than just using paste - but it’s also super easy to follow, with lots of helpful tips and advice! Loved that as well as main meals it also shows you how to make your own roti and other sides, as well as starters, desserts and options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also loved the notes and photos - felt like a lovely insight into the family and Guyanese culture as well as the food skills!

Wonderfully refreshing cookbook
What a fantastic cook book, I can't wait to try all of the recipes. This book has many recipes that I wouldn't have attempted to cook before but the books breaks them down in to easy to follow steps. This cookbook has filled a gap in the market and is a wonderful and different addition to the many cookbooks on my shelf which had become 'samey'. It is great to have recipes to try that I havem't made before.
