They also make great dental chews to help avoid expensive teeth cleanings at the vet! *A BUYER'S GUIDE TO ANTLER DOG CHEWS* Believe it or not, not all antler dog bones are made the same. Unfortunately some of the largest, most entrenched distributors in the pet industry move thousands of pounds of inferior grade antler each day, thanks to misinformation and good marketing. "A" GRADE ANTLER (what we use): "A" (or #1) Grade represents the top 10-15% of antlers each year and is considered to be the highest quality antler that you can buy. "A" Grade antler is made up of current year sheds that have been collected soon after they hit the ground. Fresh antler has the most aroma and is the most attractive to dogs, as well as having a nice brown or cream color to it. These antlers have all the beneficial nutrients intact, unlike the substandard "B" and "C" grades of antler which we will discuss below) "B" GRADE ANTLER: Unfortunately, "B" Grade Antler (often referred to as "hard white") constitutes the majority of the "high end" dog chew market today, but this antler is often much older and significantly dried out, meaning the beneficial nutrients once found inside the antler are now absent. "B" grade antler is often bleached white from weather exposure and usually contains rodent chews. "C" GRADE ANTLER: Chalky, cracked, chewed, weathered white antler good for nothing! It is also more likely to splinter, causing your dog harm, stay away from it!
