It's an extension lead.
One begins to question the direction of his life when one finds himself leaving a review for an extension lead. The item is as described.I have no idea whether it protects against surges. I don't even know what surges are, how they occur, what causes them or what effects they might have on electrical equipment. For the price, this receives my recommendation.

Allows plugs to be inserted upside down - bypassing the critical safety shutter features
As this short extension lead is generally well made and rated for 3.12kw loading I've used it in my kitchen to put some more sockets in a more convenient place. I've plugged a 900w microwave along with a few smart home devices so it's well within the loading limits for this socket. I would advise against putting a kettle into one of these because they might be rated up to 3kw alone. The flex cord feels substantial and decent quality. The main issue I have with this is that it seems to have a fatally flawed design that takes advantage of a loophole in the BS regs making it permissible to have a slimline top edge that allows for plugs to be inserted upside down. This bypasses the critical safety shutter protection on the live and neutral pins. For the sake of a 2mm more material that would prevent this incorrect insertion, I'm disappointed. Just because it technically passes regs doesn't mean it's a good design and this should have been spotted and addressed before it ever reached the market.

No guarantee of fire/surge safety, though Belkin pretend otherwise.
I have been in contact directly with Belkin, they have told me that 'if the MOV burns out the surge protection may no longer function. There is no indication as to when the MOV has burnt out so replace at least every 5 years'. So, if you want this not to be a fire risk replace every 5 years, even though it may seemingly be functioning well with no fault. So much for the lifetime guarantee. I would call this false and misleading advertising.

As described, take note if wall mounting
Not too much to say really, it's a 6 plug strip on a 3m extension, as described. The only thing to note (and you can tell from the picture now I look at it) is that the lead from the wall plug comes in to the right hand side of the strip. This is moulded into the plastic so you cannot change it to the left side. What this means in practical terms is that if you are going to mount it on the wall, and the plug you are running it from is to the left of the location, the UK plugs will be "upside down" in the sockets.

A 6 Way Quality Extension Socket. What's not to like.
It currently scares me just how many things we need to ''Plug In'' these days given the fact when we first moved in to our current home many, many years ago we only really had a Kettle, a Microwave and probably a couple lamps and an alarm clock! But these days with all our must-have gadgets .... I keep running out of sockets to plug anything in! Nightmare. And so ..... liking quality products, especially where electricity is concerned plus the point of over-loading anyone outlet ....... I always buy Belkin products, either Surge ones such as this, basic ones or even their All Singing All Dancing multi media ones.Just one word of caution. All because you turn a Single Socket into a Six Way one does not necessarily mean you can then run six high drain items off it .... [as in ... ''sorry Mr Fireman.. I did not think it a problem running my six 2.5Kw heaters off one extension cable an issue''!!!] ..... So think of how you use your extension sockets and whilst it should not be an issue plugging 6 things in like lights, phone chargers, laptops etc ... just note that many plug-in transformers do get very hot, so try not to place them next to each other and don't do as many do .... stick the socket behind something where there is little or no air flow (or for that matter cover it over with some material to stop it 'sticking out as an eye sore' ) ..... you'll just be asking for trouble and a visit from some burly Fireman/women.Anyway, as for the Belkin E-Series 6 Way/ 6 Plug SurgeStrip Surge Protected Extension Lead - 1 m Cable, White ..... they are great simple little (yer right ... long - sorry) Extensions that do the job and once in use and quietly forgotten about do everything I need both safely and securely. What more could you ask.
