Mighty little lights
These aren't just a string of LED christmas lights. As pointed out by another reviewer, this is a complete package. Yeah, I thought about just using a short string of LEDs and calling it a day. But that would have taken some effort and wouldn't look half as good. These LEDs are tiny square LEDs mounted on a flexible ribbon/circuit with a strip of 3M tape along the full length. There is a power connector at each end so you can plug the power cord in either side. You can also plug the power cord into the included on/off switch (also with 3M tape mounts) and then use the included patch cord to plug into the LED strip. I didn't use the switch because I plugged my power cord into my DVR's switched AC socket so the lights come on with the TV.I centered the LED strip vertically and horizontally on my 55" Samsung TV using the 6 included plastic clips, saving one clip to support the power cord in order to releive any stress of the cord hanging against the strip. I did not use the strip's 3M tape. The downside of just using the clips is that the LED ribbon isn't perfectly flat due to packing and some of the LEDs are tilted at different angles. However, this does not seem to be noticeable so I'm saving the tape for some future use.The final effect of this light strip is a clean white glow behind the TV which really does add a touch of class to my whole set up. While these lights are not cheap, they are a good value.See my customer images here on the main product page.UPDATE: I got to thinking it would be nice to dim these lights a bit so I bought this dimmer:[http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004T9ITQ0/ref=cm_cr_mts_prod_img]Problem with this dimmer is that the connectors are larger than the ones that are used with the led strip. Problem is easily solved using the patch cord that comes with the LED meant to be used with the on off switch. I cut the connectors off the patch cable and soldered them on the dimmer (Red = Positive = Wire with text). The dimmer works great and has a good range of dimming from nearly off to full power.

Help your contrast, help your eyes.
Bias lighting behind a set can help your viewing environment a lot. For one it reduces eyestrain since it balances the room lighting better and you're eyes will no longer be "bugging out" trying to see. Additionally, it improves perceived contrast and black level so this can improve your picture quality some, especially if your set isn't exactly the highest quality out there. Now on to this specific product. I would say it's good, but it's a bit harsh out of the box. If you normally dial down the brightness on your TV, make sure to use a dimmer on the backlight so you can match levels (and avoid it appearing overly-bright/harsh). Other than that good product, and has seemed to hold up well. It comes with adhesive strips to attach to the back of your TV so that's one thing you don't need to worry about. I believe there's also an optional remote control accessory you can buy for this, but I didn't bother with it.

Not worth it.
It's a strip of LEDs. They are coiled in a box. The picture on Amazon is deceptive. It looks as though there is light all over the tv. Maybe that would be the case if you had 4 of these, but not one measly strip. I put this horizontally across the middle section of my tv and I don't see how they got that picture that they display on the example tv in the ad. Get what you pay for. I paid something like $35 for this strip. In contrast, I gave the strip away and bought a real set from another company. They change colors, there's a remote, and it lights up the whole wall. By the way, I had to spend $168 on that package. Again, you get what you pay for.

Simply amazing! Highly recommend for those serious about their HDTV
Before ordering this product, I went to several big box stores, a national chain that sells Swedish goods (wink wink) and even a high priced, specialty lighting store in town and couldn't find what I was looking for. Then I found this backlight kit on amazon.com.I am *very* pleased with this LED backlight kit. It's the ONLY LED backlight kit I've found (regardless of price) that is perfectly calibrated at 6500K for full spectrum (white) light. The others, including the LED strip from the Swedish national chain, is silent about the color temperature. A BIG red flag in my book. If you're serious about having a backlight, do it right, order this product. Plus it's cheaper than that aforementioned store and so much better.I have a 60" plasma and I was worried it wouldn't work for me (since it only goes up to 57") but for those who have a 60" hdtv, rest assured, it's perfect and gives the right amount of light for viewing in the dark. Order it, you wont disappointed. I wish I had another HDTV so I can order this product again. It's THAT good!!!Lastly, one reviewer said a 36" led light strip shouldn't cost this much. Well, I have to politely disagree. This product is rated for 100,000 hours. So that's about 8 hours a day for the next THIRTY years! Or about $1 per year. I'd say that's quite a bargain! Plus it only uses 1 watt of power so it's like a night light. Also, everything you need is in the kit and it's in the little details where this product shines. The hooks, the cords, and brackets all work and it's so easy to install.I was up and running within 5 minutes of opening the package. This product doesn't look like much in the daytime, but when the lights go out and you put a movie in, WHOA! It's magic! Trust me, order it. Then you'll understand. I highly recommend. Save yourself the hassle of going to all the big box stores, lighting stores and that Swedish place, since most don't sell products like this and the few that do can't beat this product in terms of price or performance.
