It's designed to keep your chain under tensionto allow rear derailleur movement with the rear wheel removed. This is useful for a number of reasons. When cleaning a bike on a stand it's much easier to remove the rear wheel first. You can get to the brake arch to scrub out and inspect the pads – impossible with the wheel in place – and properly scrubbing the drivetrain down is harder and takes longer with the wheel on the bike. Also, access to the inside face of the rear derailleur is much easier with the wheel out of the way.But removing the wheel drops the chain, making turning the cranks likely to damage the chainstay, and you'll also end up jamming the chain into the chainrings. Enter the dummy hub, also known as a sleeping hub.Simply remove the wheel, reinstall your axle, slide the chain and chain keeper over it before slightly nipping it up and done. The unique design allows the bike to be shifted.

Pretty much worthless?
So I have a 2014 Jamis MTB that I'm using this for. It constantly slips out no matter how tightly you try to fasten it, I was literally not able to get it to work. For reference I've built multiple bikes/forks, etc., so I'm at least somewhat mechanically inclined, enough to expect not to have so much trouble with such a seemingly simplistic item. For sure regret purchasing this.

Very Difficult to Install
I have the tool assembled as shown in the top of the fourth diagram, but it pops out as soon as the chain touches the dummy pulley. It works marginally better if assembled with each spring between the end of the bar and the T-shaped cap so that the cap pushes against the inside surface of the rear wheel drop out, but then you almost need three hands to tighten the tool in place. Perhaps the version using only the derailleur side of the rear wheel drop out works better.

Perfect for my road bike.
I’m not going to lie, this thing will make your life easy. I partnered it with parking tool chain cleaner and got my chain sparkling in no time. This will allow you to clean your chain, rear derailleur, and crankset easily. What I love about it is that I can clean all the greasy parts without getting grease all over my rear wheel (detached) and the surrounding tubes. I’m glad that I bought it. I highly recommend it for your road bike.

Great tool for a specific uses
This is such a great idea exactly what I've been looking for for quite a long time now. I ride a easy Racers Gold Rush which is very long and sticks out on the other side of my car when it's on its hitch mounted bike rack. I plan to use this tool to keep the chain from smacking around when I transport it with the back wheel off. I can also see some value in this in the shop when working on the bike with the back wheel off and you say want to operate your derailleur or maybe even clean your chain.

SABLUE Float ON AXLE Bike Chain Keeper
Excellent product for transport with wheels out or for cleaning/lubing the chain. Before I used the butter b1 for both, and although an excellent product, the b1 kept the chain in a fixed position that didn’t allow for shifting the rear der. when lubing the chain, as the SABLUE product does. In addition, the SABLUE is well thought in design to allow use with 130 and 135 spacing, so it can be used with road or mt bikes. A great bike tool!

Works fine. Won't be used often.
I needed this for the rare occasion when I need to work on the bike with the rear wheel off. It simply and easily keep the chain off the frame. I don't use it to transport the bike, so not sure how well it would hold up, but it works for my application.

Functions like you hope it will.
It does what you need it to do without any fuss. Makes bike washing and chain maintenance easy and quick. All the components seem to be made out of quality materials but I am curious to see how long the ring holds up to my once-a-week washing. At the moment, it's easy to recommend.

See pictures for installation!
Since it didn't come with instructions, I first put it on wrong (without the silver ends) .... but once I went back to the pictures here on amzn and I put it on correctly, it worked great! It locks TIGHT and does not slip off; that is, if you put it on right!
