Fairly glossy surface. Product is as thin as xmas gift wrap paper.
I expected paper. It's "paper", but more akin to glossy christmas gift wrap - not quite that flimsy, but still. It remains to be seen how well the product holds up to use in a game, but I can already tell I must be fairly careful when writing/drawing on it, for fear of tearing (admittedly I can be rather ham-fisted). The glossy surface holds pencil and pen marks, but pen smears easily at first, and must be allowed to sit a moment.Surprisingly, art markers hold up ok, as long as you give it a moment to set in place, so that may still work well.If you need a product for fine detail work, or want the results to last, I cannot recommend this product. If only for daily gaming use, it should be adequate.

Most Markers won't work!
The paper is super thin, and also waxy on the printed side. This means that most markers, and even some pens, will smudge easily. I've only had luck drawing on this in Crayon. The paper is also very thin, so any pens/pencils that do stay put easily tear the paper.I will not be buying this again.

Ideal for my purpose
I glued a sheet of this down on a piece of cardboard; it is in the process of becoming a map for my RuneQuest Gloranatha campaign now. The price is good, I have plenty left for future projects, and the blue lines defining the hexes are just right. I have found heavy black lines on hex paper distracting. Great for all your table-top gaming needs!

this is very good paper for making your own maps on.
this is very good paper for making your own maps on. the picture shows black hexes but they are really blue and when you color over them it really looks nice. for the money it's a really good alternative to using other paper if you want to have a grid on it to make it at least look kind of scalable. being able to scale travel helps a lot with dming in my opinion

This works.
This works. I will say that i bought 5 or so rolls of paper and my party abandoned the idea of exploration, but thats on me. DM's constant woe: over preparation for something the party wont use. But ill show them! A good time! Ill show them a good time. Cause it isnt all about me. Its about us. More them, but also us. It writes with vis a vis style dry erase as permanent, if you are intersted in that sort of thing.

Waxy and brown
The roll I got was light brown instead of white. This paper is great, though. I still used it. A word of warning: It's very slightly water resistant. Some types of markers will rub off.If you're careful, you can completely remove wet-erase markers with a damp cloth, which is great if it's your plan and terrible if it's an accident. So behave accordingly.

Not as big as you think.
If you're drawing a map for D&D don't expect to be able to map your full world, much less even a whole dungeon if you're using a 1:1. However, this was my fault for not reading the info on this, and it is otherwise a perfect item.

Works great.
I put a sheet of this underneath some plastic to make a wet erase map with the hexes visible. I’m pretty new at using these; I’ve only used miniatures in Gloomhaven, and the hexes are smaller than the gloomhaven ones. It doesn’t matter all that much, and Gloom could just have oversizedhexes, so I’m very happy with it.
