The Princeton Companion to Mathematics

Amazingly coherent to understand. Although print is too small.Takes time to read.

Brought both volumes. I am engineer working in ocean industry, background hydrodynamics, and steel structures. Mathematical background is important for reading research papers and books in my own field. To do that intuitive mathematical understanding is important.

This is one of those reference books that you feel like reading for pleasure as well as information. It is unlike an encyclopedia. More like a list of well researched blog posts organized by category.

Reading this book to understand the various fields in mathematics is so revealing. The chapters re written by subject experts, which I am not. I am verse in topics in applied mathematics, especially mathematical physics, but not pure math. This is a reavealing landscape painting of the broad field of mathematics.

O foco deste livro não é demonstrar os teoremas nem se aprofundar muito em temas específicos.Recomendo para quem quer saber o que a matemática tem a oferecer, sem necessariamente ter que fazer contas.

A must have for aspiring mathematicians (and even physicists and engineers). I'd greatly recommend the book to any serious high-school or college student who would like a more technical view of the mathematical topics that lie ahead. It could offer great insight in planning for further study and choosing elective modules. Or you could just buy it for a fun read ;) It would be a good idea to get the Companion to Applied Mathematics, as well.

It is vital for us to study and research mathematics.

Este libro es una joyita, ya que condensa una amplia variedad de tópicos en matemáticas. A pesar de condensar la información contenida no sacrifica en la formalidad y profundidad de los conceptos. Excelente como libro de consulta en el área de matemáticas
