Gary Fong Lightsphere Universal Flash Diffuser: Pro Kit

I bought this kit after watching the Gary Fong videos on YouTube and thought that it would be helpful in reducing shadows when photographing the inside of property.The parcel arrived quickly from Amazon as usual. Inside the box is everything that you see in the picture. My first impression was "all this plastic for so much money". Anyway, if it would help me take better pictures then it would be worth it.After using the kit for shooting around 12 properties, I decided to create a test at home to see if the diffuser really made any difference.I setup my DSLR, tripod and SB900 flash mounted on top of the camera. I took 9 shots. 3 with the cloud diffuser, 3 with the diffuser without the clip on front dome and 3 without any diffuser. Each set of photos were taken with the flash head pointing directly up to the ceiling, 45 degrees and straight ahead.When shooting straight ahead, the cloud produced slightly softer light than without any diffuser. When pointed to the ceiling (as I normally do) it worked best without any diffuser at all. The plain diffuser with its special ribbed construction didn't seem to make any difference as claimed.So in conclusion, in my simple test it has proven to me that this diffuser doesn't work for my purposes. I also think that it is bulky and cumbersome stuck on top of your flash gun and also for the money, it is way too expensive. So I can't recommend this product and will be selling mine on eBay.

I first read about this product on the magazine popphoto and when when on its web site [...] I found links to reviews and videos every site said the same thing great product works well durable give lighting close to studio lighting. All of that hype really made me buy this product. along with the fact that i just got a new canon 580exII speed light. it works great but it leaves behind harsh lighting. was going to buy a sto fen diffuser i think that's what its called. but soon read reviews and they were not as great as the ones for the gary fongs lightsphere. the pictures come out 100x's better softer lighting no shadows on the back its amazing product recommended for beginners and pros out there. however buy the universal pro kit works on most flashes and you have all of its accessories which come in very handy. its hard to carry around everywhere but well worth it. shoot wedding this weekend amazing pics compared to my usual shots.
