Did the job well
Don't let them tell you you need something more expensive! Everybody told me this wouldn't work, but my sister bought one and hers worked great so I went ahead and got the same one she had and mine worked great too! We both took hours on a four-day hike in upper Michigan and these bad boys charged everything we had the whole time. When we stopped, we open them up and set them in the sunlight and we were good to go! My sister walked with hers open on the back of her bag. If there's no sun, you're kind of screwed, but we were good for at least 2 days before we needed to charge these packs. I would recommend.

A good, large capacity battery for charging USB devices - iPhones, etc.
I purchased this to keep various devices (iPhone, etc.) charged on a one week backpacking trip. It worked well. In fact, it was probably much more battery capacity than I needed; a week's trip barely reduced the available charging capacity of the battery. As promised, it does charge up an iPhone quite quickly. One observation on the solar charging feature. This is a LARGE capacity battery, with small solar panels generating only a maximum of 6 watts of power. This means that the solar feature is only useful to "top off" or extend the life of the battery. This is not a plus or a minus - it is simply how the laws of physics work when applied to solar charging. Some reviews have commented that this battery charges slowly using solar. It does not; it charges at the rated 6 watts. But, anyone expecting to charge this battery up from a fully or mostly discharged state in a reasonable time is going to be disappointed -- that would be like attempting to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool with a garden hose. It's going to take a long time, not because the garden hose doesn't deliver water at standard pressure but because the pool is so large. If you want to charge this (or any other) large capacity battery using solar, you are going to need large surface area solar panels, which would be much, much larger than this device has. What this devices does, and seems to do well, is allow you to carry a lot of spare power to charge devices when "off the grid." It's primary function is "large backup battery." The solar feature is just an add-on to extend the life of the battery, not a primary (or even significant) method of charging the device up from a discharged state.

Newer model is fussy
I purchased this to replace an older model, the HI-S025, which worked quite well on frequent camping trips for 4.5 years. After a few years one of the USB ports had quit and the other works about 80% of the time. I usually charge it in AZ sun, adjusting its position to get maximum sunlight and it goes from half charged to full in half a day on average. It charges my iPad mini from about 65% to 90-100% in a few hours. I find it best to charge one device at a time. The new model is a bit chunkier, has a better position for the popper to lock it closed and has a slightly bigger battery. It is recommended to fully charge it from a wall outlet before first time use, and again every three months. I advise against putting it on your dashboard inside the windshield of your car, since it can get much too hot and cause buckling of the material. If the new one is as good as the previous one, I will be very happy. It also comes with a small carabiner clip, perhaps to attach to a backpack. However, the only place of attachment would be the popper that keeps it closed, and I would not trust that given the weight of the device. It also comes with a charging cable, which as per the previous one is extremely short. For some reason they shrunk the specifications that are printed on the device down to microscopic level which you would need a magnifying glass to read. I will update as I get to use it more.Note…After a few hours of use, I discovered that one of the USB ports only works with 2 of my 6 charging cables.. the other port works with 4 of the 6 cables. All 6 cables work with wall chargers and a 330 Watt large power pack. So this charger is VERY FUSSY ABOUT WHICH CABLES WILL WORK WITH IT. I’ve purchased some more cables, but I don’t feel I should have to when the cables I have work fine with wall chargers and other power packs. I contacted customer service at the the seller and, after I provided photos of the problem, they gave a full refund without needing to return it. This is good service and means they will not try to resell a faulty device. I added back a star after subtracting two.
