I had been looking for a CVSB to HDMI converter that had a proper 5v input (not a USB charger) and a 4:3 aspect ratio, this device seemed to fit the bill perfectly and I was prepared to pay a bit extra (but not stupid amounts!) for the privilege.I unboxed the item and it did have a quality feel - metal case and well built. All was looking well until I plugged it in (for reference to an old Atari 800 computer).First the good points: I did get a screen display and I did get sound.Now for the bad points, the display updated about twice a second (I could type whole words before the screen updated) and then the display wasn't correct. On static text displays the TV interlacing seemed to be stuck in random screen positions: sometimes it would be OK, but after typing the next character it would update the screen with interlaced lines permanently showing at various vertical positions down the screen. Quite often (i.e. it changed several times a second on dynamic screens) the bottom of the screen would be displayed at the top of the screen.I found it unusable for my setup so I returned it - which was simple enough (as you would expect if via Amazon).I've looked at several methods of displaying old computer / console output on a modern monitor. I originally concentrated on converting CVBS to HDMI but I would now suggest that you should consider CVBS to VGA if your monitor accepts that input. I eventually ordered a PSG3361 from CPC which is silky smooth with no noticeable lag. The only downside is that it doesn't have the 4:3 aspect ratio - I guess compromises have to be made at this price point.
