Porsche 996 The Essential Companion: Supreme Porsche Paperback – May 15, 2008

As a 996 Owner I was interested in this book because as I am sure you know that there are not too many other books available right now that go into any real detail. I enjoy working on my 996 and I was looking for something that would provide me some depth on my car, this doesn't cover everything but it will suffice for the time being. It would be great if it were more like a Haynes book, but as I said, it will work for now. I would recommend this to anyone who owns a 996 just for the information that it does provide.I would rate myself a "below average work on my car kind of guy", so something like this book should be of considerable help to someone like myself. (I have a brother who is a Master Mechanic, which really helps!) According to my brother this book should help in more then a few ways, providing some detail on certain components and views that we didn't have before, so with this said, if you are looking for more information then just how to do an oil change, and you want to learn more about your car and you enjoy working on your car, then this is likely what you are looking for and you should buy this book.If you are looking for a pretty history book, think again, as there are some interesting photos, but I wouldn't suggest that you buy it just for that. This is a book that is for people who want to be able to understand their 996 a little better and be able to do something more than just an oil change, the overall content covers some pretty good stuff that should help you understand your 996 a little more then you do now. (Or at least this is the case for me.)I gave it a 5 star rating because it is exactly what I thought it was going to be!

This hard to find book arrived in very good used condition. I was very pleased to receive it in such good order - very happy with the supplier and the transportation - albeit a little expensive to get it to Australia.

Extremely thorough for this series. Best resource for all manner of potentially important facts and figures. I certainly know more than most mechanics about some of the finer points of the 996.

Book was as advertised, new and in the wrapper at a price about 40% off list. It arrived a little sooner than the advertised arrival date but I am a little puzzled why it would take well over a week when I am in the same state as the vendor(warehouse possibly in another state?). Good deal if you have time to wait and/or don't want to pay a premium for expidited shipping and can't find it locally.

This is a very large, soft bound book with a few typos and production errors...clearly this is not a large publisher with scores of folks reviewing the final printing.Getting that negative out of the way (and that English is clearly not the primary language of the author) - it's in every way else a necessary accessory for a 996 owner. Just great tidbits and factoids in there along with helpful nuggets to diagnose and fix the small stuff on your car.Happy to have bought it. I believe they are no longer in print - so what is out there is all that you will find.

This is a primer and a basic repair manual for the 911. The information contained gives the necessary to more fully the iconic nature of the Porsche in its many variants. I truly believe it is a must have book to fully appreciate the engineering and evolution of the 911. It doesn't languish too much in any one area and provides very solid information on the fundamental items the DIYer will be interested in performing, A welcome addition to my library as a first time porsche owner and decent mechanic.

I like the background informationt in the book on the diffrent models but the book does down play some of the known problems with the 996, but what is he going to say, so it's OK. I plan to read the whole book and then go back to it if I need to refresh my memory on how to do something. so far I think it was money well spent. I also ordered the 101 project for a 911 996 that is not out yet.

The best source of information,hands down for the 996. The must have tool for the enthusiast and or owner. Extremely detailed written by an owner for an owner. Everything and anything you could possibly want to know about your 996, N/A or Turbo, C2 or C4, it has it all. As an owner, it's fun just to flick through the pages, see something interesting and start reading for knowledge and entertainment. Great job, Adrian!

'Porsche 996 The Essential Companion' is an exceptionally detailed guide to this model and runs to over 600 pages. Its helped me to minimise running costs and helped identify a garage which was trying to charge extortionate sums for simple jobs. Fascinating read if you are mechanically minded (or interested) and very comprehensive.

Not much needs to be said. This is THE book you need if you own a 996 series. Simply the best and well worth it.
