The product seems durable and versatile (for current running both ways: i.e., you can choose to use it in the U.S., or reverse it and use it in Europe et al. However, the box said to see the directions, but there were no directions in the box. I had no idea which way to turn the switch, and I feared I would burn out the converter or what was plugged into it if I didn't switch it the right way. It's a good thing I was super-cautious because, once I found the website for the product, I was warned to make sure I had the switch the correct way or the converter would burn out. Fortunately, the directions on the website were pretty clear. It might be nice if, on the switch itself, one side could say "Switch this way for U.S." and the other side say, "Switch this way for Europe, Asia, et al." If there were a similar product with better directions, I would recommend that. But I'm not aware of anything else that looks so sturdy.

Do not buy - I used this on just a 30W 220v appliance, set correctly to 110v input, and within 10 minutes stated to smell a wierd 'plasticy' smell, I checked this and it was almost too hot to touch, so I quickly unplugged it and took it out of my room. Needless to say I am now on my way to the "returns" page. Amazon should discontinue the unit.

Don’t buy this product. I bought this in US and used the instructions (from one of the product pictures on amazon) for stepping down voltage in Hong Kong for a US night lamp and pop came the spark followed by a burnt plastic smell. It didn’t last a second!

It BROKEN for just 1 day

Terrible, doesn’t work at all! has burning smell after 20 minutes. If there is zero star, I would give it zero!

We're Chinese living overseas in America. We know about transformers vs. adapters and continuous vs. intermittent use. So for us, this little gadget is perfect for small wattage appliances or electronics. We use it for small strings of Christmas lights, our Scentsy burners, and nightlights for our kids. It is a transformer, but only for 50 Watts of intermittent use or 30 watts of continuous use. It's better than many of the other mini-transformers on Amazon, This one is perfect. There are lots of people who don't know what they're doing and try to use these things for bigger appliances, or laptops and phones (which generally do not even need a transformer - most just need a plug adapter).IMPORTANT! Remember to check wattage of what you want to charge. Will NOT handle hair dryer, flat iron, or such. Get a convertible appliance to take with you; they are not that expensive, and you then have a spare one when you return home.
