Q: What are tea bags made of? Plastic?

I emailed ITO EN Customer Service (ITO EN (North America) Inc.) to ask what their teat bags are made of and here is their email reply: Thank you for your email regarding our tea bags. As a company with a legacy of over 50 years in business, we are committed to providing products that embody our five guiding principles of Natural, Safe, Healthy, Delicious, and Well-Designed. All of our pyramid tea bags (including our ITO EN Traditional and matcha LOVE tea bags) are made of food grade, BPA-free PET or nylon mesh that meet FDA regulatory requirements for hot beverage contact applications. We are also actively researching compostable and plant-based material options as part of our continued focus on environmental sustainability. If you would like to avoid using our nylon teabags while we research sustainable packaging solutions, we do offer a selection of loose leaf teas, which you can find on our website at the following link: https://itoen.com/collections/loose-leaf. In addition, our ITO EN Oi Ocha, Hojicha, Genmaicha and Mugicha tea bags on our website use paper tea bags instead of our nylon tea bags.
