Valuable source of information to make healthy lifestyle changes
The Lifestyle Medicine Handbook An Introduction to the Power of Healthy Habits has given me a new insight on wellness of the whole person. From exercise, healthy eating choices, happiness, sleep management, stress and peace of mind through meditation, this all encompasses how we live.Dr. Frates practices what she shares and teaches with her patients and opens up about her own life struggles, moments of joy and accomplishments. She points out health care providers and their role in establishing a relationship with their patients, which I personally have found to be essential in choosing the right lifestyle. I do believe this relationship between patient and a health care provider is imperative.Sleep plays and integrated role in our daily functioning. Dr. Frates states sleep deprivation changes our perception and affects how to conduct ones self on a daily basis.Another topic is the gratitude journal. Dr. Frates suggests writing down three things that you are grateful and appreciate each day. As an educator and retired principal, this is a great concept not only for adults but also for students.Dr. Frates mission is to transform lifestyles, to encourage each of us to connect with ourselves as individuals and to discover self-worth. A journey worth experiencing!

Excellent Lifestyle Medicine Resource!
This book is a MUST READ for anyone who is looking to help themselves, or others, adopt healthier lifestyle behaviors that are supported by the literature. The Lifestyle Medicine Handbook, written by Dr. Beth Frates, is the most up-to-date, comprehensive overview of Lifestyle Medicine that exists in the field. After reading this book, I immediately revised my undergraduate Lifestyle Medicine course to incorporate this brilliant textbook. The Lifestyle Medicine Handbook addresses the importance of behavior change, evidence-based strategies for success, as well as the multiple dimensions of Lifestyle Medicine (physical activity, healthy eating, healthy relationships, sleep, stress management, smoking cessation, etc.). It incorporates scholarly work, clinical cases, and personal examples; making it enjoyable for fellow scholars, undergraduate students, as well as the general public to read. I highly encourage faculty who teach health related courses or who want to teach a course on Lifestyle Medicine to read this book and consider adopting it as well. Indispensable!!!
A book written by international leaders of the Lifestyle Medicine movement (in collaboration with the American College of Lifestyle Medicine - ACLM) is extensively based on up-to-date scientific evidence on the application of Lifestyle Medicine for disease prevention and health promotion and well-being. The "Live and learn with Dr. Beth Frates" section is rich in reflections based on the author's practical experiences and her acronyms (eg The Frates COACH Approach acronym) are excellent for training new healthcare professionals. Highly recommended!! Congratulations!!

Great book content but delivered damanged
I like the content but the book was delivered with the corner tab folded over with many pages affected. After not being able to figure out how to let customer service know, I decided to write a review.

Great book for anyone looking to understand how and why to improve their lifestyle.
This is a must read for anyone who wants to avoid a heart attack, stroke, diabetes, or other chronic conditions. It is full of practical tips to live a healthy life. Exercise, nutrition, sleep, stress management, positive psychology, and mindfulness are just a few of the important chapter in this treasure of a book. Every chapter has an interesting live and learn about a patient. These stories are relatable and pretty funny at times too. But, overall this is a serious investment of $35 that is well worth it. The information that you learn here just may save your life, and that's priceless.
