Wide, so it's high capacity without being excessively tall. Handles make layers easy to lift.Issues: edges are somewhat sharp. Very tall items (e.g. Chinese steamed bread) may not fit.

Sure this steamer is expensive, but it's a gem. It is beautifully thought out for cooking Central Asian dishes such as monti. The steamer is wide, and the layers are not too tall so space is not wasted and it fits on a normal range. The base is perfectly sized for our induction stove to maximize contact and heat gain. It also looks great in our kitchen. First rate!
