Very efficient and compact item
So I’m notoriously bad at cooking rice on the stove top, no matter what I do it’s always stodgy and sticks to the pan or out right burns or bubbles over, total disasters.I had resorted to buying the microwave rice packets, but I had got fed up of paying £1 for every portion of rice that our house of two required, it was getting expensive to say the least at least 3 meals a week that have rice with it,I didn’t want to buy a large rice cooker as my kitchen is tiny so I just don’t have the room to store a large one and didn’t want to waste any rice left over so I held of buying one at all.Spotted this little gadget and for the price of it I thought why not have a go, if it didn’t meet out requirements I’d send it backBut wow have to say no I won’t be sending it back I’m very impressed with this.I used the 1.5 rice to 1.5 water ratio and for the first try I used basmati rice.i also added 1/2 a teaspoon of vegetable oil to the pot and mixed it in before popping the lid on and flipping the switch to cook.within 5 mins I could smell the rice so that was a good sign.nice and simple when it finished it switched itself to warm and I left it for the required 15 minute steaming time.and I was very impressed with the results,I used a wooden fork to separate the grains and it was lovely and fluffy with a great texture.this ratio would definitely feed two people no problem, but on the first try there was just me and there is some left over (orange bowl with hand to give size), the added vegetable oil at the beginning also meant the rice did not stick to the inner pot at all so that made for easier cleaning out at the end.Next I shall be trying sushi rice and jalofiThis is definitely a two person portion ratio though if your own your own you could maybe have 3 portions depending on how hungry you are

Looks good
Rice cooker looks good. Just the size I wanted. The measuring cup arrived cracked. Looks sturdy and durable. Haven’t used it yet so can’t comment on its workings.

Best cookery gadget and not just for rice
When my husband died just over a year ago I lost all interest in cooking meals for one. Then, purely by chance, I stumbled on information regarding rice cookers. I thought that they were only for cooking rice but I was so wrong. This is a mini-miracle cooker that can cook so many meals for one or two people so easily - check out 'meals in a rice cooker' on YouTube for info. This method of cooking locks in vitamins and minerals which can be lost during conventional cooking processes. Also, you don't need to use oils or fat, making it a healthier way to cook. All you have to do is load it up with ingredients - and that can be any of the following: rice (obviously!) meat, fish, vegetables, pulses, fruit, pasta, eggs, porridge oats etc - according to the recipe. Switch it on and in no time at all you have a healthy meal ready to serve. You don't have to set a timer or stand over it. This little cooker 'knows' when to stop cooking and goes into 'keep warm' mode until you are ready to serve your meal. I haven't had a failure yet and every meal has been delicious. Just two things to remember; (1) use oven gloves as it would be easy to scald your hands if you don't take care and (2) remember to switch it off at the socket when the food is cooked.

Tiny, but good rice cooker
I bought this because I previously had the Russell Hobbs 1.8L one which you can find on here too. I definitely don't recommend the russell hobbs one because it has a glass top which leaves a lot of steam out. This dries out the rice and it does not cook very well. However, THIS rice cooker is perfect. It takes about 12 minutes to cook, but you need to leave it for another 10 minutes or so to steam properly. If someone is complaining that their rice was wet, this is probably what they did. Let it steam for the extra few minutes and the rice will be perfect. This rice cooker is absolutely tiny. You can see my hand in the photo covering the whole top (and I don't have large hands). I was worried it would be too small, but it's actually perfect for me. This cooks 1.6 cups of rice (Japanese rice cups are 3/4 of an American cup size). 0.5-1 cup of rice is enough for one person. I only ever cook for two and even 1.6 cups worth of rice is on the bigger side that what I need for two.I love this because it can be put away in a cupboard and not take up much space, where my old rice cooker took up a lot of space. There are a few things you should know before buying this....* There is no on/off switch on the device, so you will need to plug it out when you want to turn it off completely.* The top cover is not messy, but steam does accumulate in between the top parts which are difficult to clean. You can see on my picture that the metal part of the top cover does not separate so it is hard to get into there to wash it. This part is only water, so you can rinse it easily. You might be able to disconnect these two parts, but it doesn't look like you can.* The plastic rice spoon does not fit inside, so you can't leave it inside to put it away. I put it in my cutlery drawer. The rice measuring cup does fit in there though.* The power cable is fine, but is messy to put away. I used a little strip of velcro to wrap it up tightly so when I put it in the cupboard, it doesn't catch on everything and knock it over.Overall, well worth buying if you want a small rice cooker that is easy to use, clean, and store.
