This appears to be a nice size mortar and pestle set, which from my research is pretty much at the bottom end of the scale for size. They make smaller ones but they won’t do as good a job. This one was left rather rough and has pretty aggressive ridges in the bowl that will take a lot of work to smooth down before it can be used.I’m also not too impressed with the type of stone used as this rock seems to have a lot of crystalline structure in it and I’m afraid some of that may flake off leaving glass like shards in my food stuffs. Not something one would want moving through their digestive tract.It will take me a while to get the mortar smoothed down and seasoned before I will be using it in my kitchen, but I will come back later and post an update if I decide its not worth using due to safety concerns. For now all I can suggest is for you to weight your options and decide for yourself if one of these are right for you.

Definitely the biggest and heaviest mortar and pestle in my collection! Great for larger batches, I use it mostly for grinding herbs for tea blends or incense.

it's been my displeasure to be writing this but 3 out of 5 products I ordered have missing parts or broken parts, theis last Mortar and Pestle set is my last draw

The Stone Mortar & Pestle is perfect for grinding spices and vegetables. I've been using it to make green tomatillo salsa and guacamole.The weight of the mortar is good for a small gathering, but you will need to be constantly moving the salsa to a different recipient if you plan to make a salsa for more than 4 people.The lid is a good plus if you need your guacamole to last longer, but I think that I would pass on the lid since it does not look good in my opinion.

I do wish the inside of the mortar was a bit rougher. To better grab the matter being worked. It works great with seeds and such, but not so well for slippery skins of things like dried peppers.The silicone lid is really useful when grinding stuff that will irritates the eyes or airway. I don't try to grind hot peppers without it anymore.The included mat does a great job at protecting your counter or what ever surface you are using the mortar on.It's a winner over all. don't shy away from it.

First off, It is very heavy , I will tell you that this is very heavy So you want to be sure to not drop it. Itcomes with something to keep it in place While you grind down herbs as well. the quality of the bowl is really nice too. I love the natural rock design in it too.I got this for when I want to grind up my own herbs and get a fresher taste from my ingredients. 5 out of 5 for me.
