Super customer service!
I got this as a birthday present for myself, and it arrived looking like the Post Office delivered it by drop-kicking it. As expected from the look of the box, it didn't work; it wouldn't levitate and the base got hot. So I contacted the manufacturer, and exchanged email with someone who actually read what I said and answered me, instead of the all-too-common case of them sending off a form letter only vaguely related to what I said. I sent them pictures of the smashed packaging, and they sent out a new moon lamp immediately. I'd have rather had it not show up broken, of course, but if I had to get a replacement, I'm glad it was from these folks. They take care of their customers. Their customer service would be worth a whole extra star if I could give it 6!Now, as to the lamp itself: It is really cool. If you've ever read H. Beam Piper's "Little Fuzzy," you'll remember that Victor Grego, the chief bad guy, has a levitating globe of the planet in his office. Well, I don't have an Earth (yet) but now I have a levitating moon on my desk! And it looks awesome. (why, yes, I'm a geek; how did you ever guess?)Setting it up is really easy. It only took me a few tries to get it centered on the magnets. It floats about half an inch in the air over the base and turns slowly. Yes, you can slide things under it to prove that it's really floating in the air. The light is powered by an inductive pickup, just like a wireless charger for your phone. You should note that the remote control only turns the light on and off; the base needs power at all time or the moon will come crashing down. I'd recommend, if you're going to be unplugging it, to first set the moon down gently. It's only plastic, after all -- PLA, I'm suspecting -- and banging it around is probably not good for it.That moon, by the way, is 3D printed (they must have a huge printer farm at the factory!), I believe from NASA data, and is extremely detailed. It's going to need regular dusting, because those craters are going to start developing their own regolith if I don't. You could put a glass dome from the craft store over it, of course.Levitating things have more or less of a whirring noise from the base because it's moving magnets around to make its item float. This particular one is remarkably quiet -- enough so that when I first plugged it in, I was concerned that it wasn't working. You can hear it in a quiet room if it's on your desk, but not in any sort of non-silent environment. The only negative I can find is that the "smooth" color setting actually makes the thing strobe! Be ready when you test it -- it startled me! And I do wish there was a good warm white setting; I'm mostly using the cool white. But oh, this is wonderful. Very enthusiastically recommended!

Ease of getting the globe to float is truly wonderful
I love this floating planet, ever since these started hitting the shelves I’ve wanted one. I bought an earlier model and it was so hard to get the ball to float that it frustrated me to no end. But this levitating globe is so easy to set up and use that I had it going the first time in maybe 5 minutes and it has only gotten easier.

doesn't float
Mine didn't levitate. I have a feeling some of these just aren't balanced and some get lucky. Not only that, after only 10 minutes of it powered on with trying to levitate it, the lights stopped working. It stopped powering on entirely. Returned.

READ THIS if you’re struggling to levitate it
I rarely write reviews, but took me a while to get this so listen (or rather read) carefully.First thing you need to do is hold the base still so it doesn’t get stuck to the moon at Mach 5 speed. As you’re lowering the moon, use your bottom fingers to hold the base down. The next step is the most important step and what I found to work. Im guessing I take a different approach since I don’t see it mentioned at all. You need to be aggressive as you lower the moon. Lower it carefully but push it against the magnet til you find the sweet spot. Don’t be too aggressive though. You have to feel for it but once you get the spot, the moon should stay lifted. You then release your fingers carefully and let it levitate.

Floating fiasco fixed
Editing my original review from 1 star to 5 stars:After contacting Amazon about our first lamp being faulty, we were able to exchange it for a new one. We got the new one floating in under 5 minutes and it is really cool! Everyone who sees it is mesmerized. I highly recommend this product. There is no mistaking it being "tricky" vs faulty. If the magnetic pull is literally sucking it out of your hands to the circumference of the base, it needs to be replaced and is totally worth doing so. My 11 yr old and his friends can get this new one floating, so it should feel doable in a matter of minutes.Original review:Feeling totally foolish here. The reviews and videos all say it's "tricky" to get it to levitate, but that feels like a major understatement! We've had five people trying for over an hour & can't get it to float. We feel the resistance, but the second we even think about letting go, it slams to the outer circumference of the base. I'll update the review if we can get it working, but currently feeling defeated and ready to return out of hopelessness 😞
